Privacy policy

Radio Marble does not require an account. This page explains what data is processed when you use the site, by whom, and why.

Data stored in your browser

Your favorites, the last station you played, your volume and mute setting, your votes and your light or dark theme choice are saved in your browser’s local storage. They are not sent to us, and you can erase them at any time by clearing this site’s data.

Cookies

The site itself sets one cookie, vc, which stores a two-letter country code (for example “MA”) for 7 days so the home page can show stations from your country. It contains nothing else.

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used, so we can improve the site. It sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and sends your IP address, browser details and the pages you visit to Google, which processes them on our behalf; we do not use it for advertising. You can block it with your browser’s privacy settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics sets no cookies unless you agree to them; without your consent it only sends anonymous, cookieless measurements.

How we choose your country

To fill in that country, we use the country header provided by our hosting or CDN provider when there is one. Otherwise our server sends your IP address to the geolocation service ipwho.is, which returns a country code; we keep that result on our server for up to 30 days, filed under a hash of your IP address. If that does not work, we use the region of your browser’s language setting.

Server logs

Like any website, our server temporarily records technical data (IP address, browser, pages requested) to keep the service secure and working.

Audio streams and other services

When you play a station, your browser connects directly to that station’s server, which can see your IP address. Station logos also load from the stations’ own servers, and country flags from flagcdn.com. For some stations (HLS streams) your browser loads the hls.js player library from cdnjs.cloudflare.com. On the radio map, your browser loads the MapLibre map library from cdnjs.cloudflare.com and the map tiles from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org); on Arabic pages it also loads a right-to-left text plugin from unpkg.com.

When you start or like a station, our server tells Radio Browser (the open directory our station list comes from) which station it was; your IP address is not passed on. To show the song currently playing, our server briefly connects to the station’s stream.
